Fans love to find hints of things to come in games, and Battlefield 1 is no exception. Gamers scour the internet for clues, and Battlefield 1 aficionado Westie has found something fascinating.
Peter Olofsson Hermanrud, lead weapon artist on Battlefield 1, has an Art Station profile featuring renderings of some of the gear he designed. Three of the weapons are currently in the game, but the fourth is nowhere to be found… yet. The image in question is that of a crossbow grenade launcher. If that doesn’t sound like an awesome addition to the already impressive game, then you’re clearly not into blowing things up1.
Fans of the game are already jumping on the rumor train to see if this is a legitimate leak:
@Striterax_ Is the weapon leak true? The crossbow grenade launcher?

It’s likely that this weapon will be in future DLC, just as a similar grenade launcher appeared in Battlefield 3. And, since there was actually a weapon like this one that existed in World War I, it wouldn’t be out of the question.
It would be interesting2 if DICE decided to add the content through more official means, like some sort of DLC story involving a character who improvises such a weapon. Clearly that’s speculation, but it would be a cool way to introduce something that doesn’t technically exist into a historically semi-accurate game.
It should be noted, however, that it is also possible that this weapon was merely a concept that made it to render status but was ultimately cut from the game for any number of reasons.
Anyway, you can watch Westie’s take on what he found below:
We’ll have to wait and see what pops up in future DLC, but it’s certain that the crossbow grenade launcher is a weapon that players would like to see.
