Here’s Everyone Who Died In The Infinity Gauntlet Story

Turns out Thanos isn’t a nice guy. Like, at all.

The upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films will treat movie-goers to one of the greatest Marvel Comics storylines of all time. And if the comics are any indication, things are going to get pretty grim for your favorite superhero team, thanks to the infamous villain Thanos. In fact, in the Infinity Gauntlet comic series (which the films are primarily based on), several superheroes are killed in their epic battle against the Mad Titan.

Although Thanos made his first appearance in the early 70s, the Infinity Gauntlet story didn’t debut until the early 90s. First came the Infinity Gauntlet crossover series, which was followed up by two sequel series: Infinity War and Infinity Crusade. As you may already know, the story revolves around Thanos (in possession of all six Infinity Stones) and his attempt to control/destroy the universe. There’s just one small issue, however… the hoard of Marvel heroes who stand up to him and wage war.

So, which superheroes die in the comics? Read on, if you dare. Needless to say, SPOILERS AHEAD. Well, spoilers for the comic book saga at least. No one knows how Marvel Studios will adapt the material into the upcoming film version (and its sequel).

First off, at the beginning of the Infinity Gauntlet story, Thanos destroys half of the living creatures in the UNIVERSE. He does this in an attempt to impress the object of his affection, the physical embodiment of Death.

The Marvel heroes then put up a valiant fight against him, but their plans don’t work out as well as they initially hoped. In their epic battle against the evil intergalactic baddie, there are several tragic deaths. Here’s who kicks the bucket: Spider-Man, Vision, Wolverine, Cyclops, Scarlett Witch, Iron Man, Cloak, Nova, Thor, and Quasar.

Yikes. That’s pretty intense.

Needless to say, this storyline was begging for a film adaptation. And thankfully, one is currently in the works. Obviously, there will be some changes made to the story in order to adapt it to the world that the MCU films have established. We’ll just have to wait and see which characters the filmmakers decide to kill off, if any.

Luckily, we have the comics to keep us occupied until then.

Amazon user Andrew Garaventa provides this helpful review of the Infinity Gauntlet comic:

“A masterful piece of writing and one of the all time definitive Marvel titles. This is why Thanos was chosen to be the big bad of the MCU.”
