The latest contender for girlfriend of the year is Imgur user waffleguru, who created a real Gwent set for her boyfriend. Gwent is the game that appears in The Witcher 3, and trust us, if you’re a Witcher fan, you’re going to be very impressed by this real-life version. The meticulously designed cards come in a wooden chest and have all of the pieces necessary for a real life game of Gwent.
“When he was playing Witcher 3, he spent almost as much time playing Gwent as he did actually playing the game. So of course he needed his own set of Gwent cards, with a fancy treasure chest box to keep it all in,” waffleguru said.
As fans of The Witcher 3 will tell you, the art of Gwent is absolutely beautiful, and this real-life version manages to capture that same magic. Check out the images of waffleguru’s insanely detailed Gwent set below. Prepare to be jealous.
The wooden carrying case is professional grade and would likely run at least $100 on its own. The craftsmanship is incredible.
Here’s what you see when you open the case for the first time. Everything is organized and perfectly in place.
The playing mat was printed on canvas for sturdiness and style.
After you remove the mat, you’ll see all of the game’s components.
Here’s the instruction manual.
Everything is explained in detail for players old and new alike.
More instructions are on the back.
Each faction has its own deck box.
Here are the Scoia’tael cards. All of them have been laminated for their protection and are around the size of a business card.
Next, we’ve got the Northern Realms cards. The creator notes that there are duplicates of the cards so that players can have an effective deck.
Here’s a look at the Nilfgaardian cards.
Monster cards have neutral backings so that it will be random when a player draws the card.
There are neutral cards in the deck for weather, environments, etc. Main characters also get their own card.
Cheat sheet cards offer up a quick tutorial for players.
The creator of the set even made a tiny chest for the counter tokens and little bags for the counter gems.
The counter tokens keep track of the score. This is the one thing the creator of the set says she’s unhappy with, stating: “My one disappointment with this set, they didn’t turn out quite how I wanted. But they get the job done.”
It’s unlikely that anyone would ever be disappointed with this phenomenal labor of love.
